Away win gives club advantage in cup

The Norfolk summer cup is now played over two legs due to falling clubs numbers in the summer league as the team visited Thorpe Marriott for the first leg. The first half saw Steve Easter, Simon Warnes and Chris Mann lose 11-13 to Sylvia Turner, Kath Frost and George Clarke. The opening exchanges saw the home side take a 0-5 lead after three ends with Sylvia imparticular dictating the game at lead for Marriott. Three shots dropped on end six saw Marriott keep their five shot lead and although the Wymondham triple tried they were not tight enough over the course of the match even though they only lost by two shots in the end with a three and single picked up over the last two ends. The other match saw Pat Saunders, Debbie Sparham and Jack Pye beat Shelia Redwood, Richard Perkins and Tony Turner 17-13. A fairly high scoring start to the match saw both triples concede four shots with the scores tied at 7-7 after five ends. Still nothing seperated the triples after nine ends with the score 10-10 but ends twelve to fourteen saw Wymondham pick up a 3,1,2 to lead 17-12 giving them a hard fought win.

The second session saw an improved performance from Steve, Simon and Chris as they beat Richard Perkins, Ted Griffin and Tony Turner 20-7. Chris was in much better form and big conversion shots played on ends one, five and twelve turning potential one and two downs into four shots each time provided the base for the win. Trailing 2-9 after five ends, Marriott could only pick up singles during the whole match as the Wymondham triple were fully deserving of their win. Pat, Deb and Jack produced a similar performnace to their first as they edged past Jenny Walker, Kath Frost and John Jarvis 11-9. After a solid start by Wymondham, back to back braces gave Marriott a 6-7 lead after nine ends. The next four ends however all went to the visiting triple as a 1,1,1,2 gave Pat, Deb and Jack an 11-7 lead to protect with two ends to go which were played out for singles to Marriott. This was another tight match for the triple but all again played well enough especially towards the later stages to claim their second win of the night and now give the club a big advantage to progress in the cup.
