Summer season starts with draw

The opening match of the summer league season started against defending champions Bob Carter and as anticipated was a close affair which could of seen the club nick a 5-3 win but in the end had to be content with a 4-4 draw. Laura Hawksworth, Simon Warnes and Chris Mann were in good form to beat Jean Woods, John Turner and Jason Woods 24-9 where the home side flew into a 11-0 lead after four ends and finished in similar fashion scoring a 1,4,2. Jack Marshall, Debbie Sparham and Jack Pye were involved in a topsy-turvy match having picked up a five on the first end it looked like being a strong match for the home triple but this never really materialised as Carter picked up eight shots over five ends to lead 6-8. Three ends later Jack, Deb and Jack replied well with a 3,2,4 but again consistency was lacking and Carter once again hit back from 15-8 down to lead 15-16 with an end to go. Wymondham had held one but with Jack trying to win the match just caught the shot wood wrong and unfortunately ended up giving it away to see Rob Howeltt, Melvin Woods and David Lamb win 15-17. The second session again did not see Jack play his best game at lead and with Deb and Jack having work to do meant they struggled as Jean, John and Jason won 10-16. Roger Steele replaced Laura at lead for the second match with Simon and Chris which saw Chris in determined mood all night and never let the Carter triple have a sniff of a big end to score from as the won by 18-7 to draw the match.
