Club secures third consecutive summer cup final

After a brilliant showing in the first leg at home to rivals Bob Carter to record a maximum 8-0 win, only a draw was required at Drayton to reach the final and this happened by the first session. On mat 1 Jack Marshall, Debbie Sparham and Jack Pye came from 4-11 down to stage a great recovery to win five of the remaining seven ends by 13-3 to win 17-14 against Ryan Fox, Melly Woods and David Lamb. Carter played well at the start and gave very little away but as soon as Jack and Debbie grew into the match the pressure started to show late on as the Carter triple dropped a 2,2,3 over the last three ends to surrender their great start. On mat 2 Neil Davidson, Laura Hawksworth and Chris Mann drew 11-11 against John Turner, Simon Willies and Jason Woods. No triple dominated the match and all players had thier moments. Seven shots were scored by Wymondham from ends eight to thirteen to give them a great chance of a win leading 11-8, as Neil had his best spell at lead, but Carter hit back and nearly won the match had it not been for Chris' last wood which came in for second wood and sealed Carter's fate. It must be said the sportsmanship showed by Carter when the mats had been written down wrong originally and the captain agreed to swap, a lot is to be said for that!
