Missed chances give Bob Carter advantage

The first leg of the Norwich Cup semi final against Bob Carter saw frustrating moments in the opening triples match's that saw the home side not captialise on Carter's poor play. Billie Barker, Brian Saunders and Jack Pye slipped to a 2-9 defeat while Pat Saunders, Melvyn Barker and Debbie Sparham managed to hold onto a 6-6 draw. The pairs saw John Jeffery and Jon Sparham win 11-5 while Mark Linsdell and Chris Mann lost 3-6. The triples came back for the second half but again struggled as Billie Barker, Brian Saunders and Jack Pye managed to come from 1-7 down to win 9-8 but Pat Saunders, Melvyn Baker and Debbie Sparham lost 4-11. The pairs were once again shared as the home side failed to win a session the whole evening. John Jeffery and Jon Sparham produced another good 8-4 win while Mark Linsdell and Chris Mann lost on the last bowl by 4-5 as Carter take a 7-9 lead to Drayton for the second leg making them clear favourites. After three of the four skips had their positions changed from the quarter final at Forncett, this result shows the changes failed to really make the impact hoped.
