Double delight achieved again

Having clinched the league on Monday the club sealed the Breckland double again, for the fourth time in a row, winning the five pairs final against Carleton Rode at Forncett. It was a measured perofrmance from the team who steadily managed to build a ten shot lead after the first two pairings. Roger Steele and Chris Mann came from 0-3 down to win 12-7 against Trish Taylor and Russell Davidson while Pat Saunders and Melvyn Barker also recorded a five shot win by 11-6. John Jeffery and Jon Sparham were involved in a good tussle against the current memorial pairs champions Terry and Karl Newby as they came from 1-6 down to produce four shots on the penultimate end to lead 10-8. The last end saw three shots conceded as the pair lost 10-11 but a healthy nine shot lead was had going into the last two pairings. Brian Saunders and Jack Pye were also involved in a tight match against Morris Taylor and Neil Davidson and although the Wymondham pairing won six of the ten ends they had to settle for a solid 7-7 draw. Billie Barker and Mark Linsdell were last up protecting the nine shot lead against Keith Buck and Graham Mobbs but things quickly went wrong for the Rode pairing as a dropped four made the task of winning the tie a lot harder and with Mark producing a captain's performance they eased to a 14-3 win as the in form cpatain was not to be denied the Breckland double once again.
