Persistence pays off with maximum win

A second successive season saw the club pick up another maximum win at Hingham but were pushed all the way in one of the games. Billie Barker, Steve Easter and Jon Sparham were a step ahead in their match against P. Chapman, M. Hunter and G. Tweed as they won by a big 31-8 margin to dominate the match in every area. On mat 2 Hayley Osbourne, Melvyn Barker and Chris Mann beat W. Townsend, D. Mylchreest and M. White 22-15. The Wymondham triple made the better start and captalised on missed chances by Hingham to lead 18-1 after ten ends. From there the Hingham triple played the better but left it too late to stage a threatening comeback as braces by Wymondham on ends fourteen and sixteen stemmed the tide.

Second session saw Brian Saunders, Jack Marshall and Jack Pye rally late on to win 17-13 against W. Tweed, C. Harris and K. Thomas. The Hingham triple are a tough nut to crack and played well but did rely on Keith at skip to get them out of trouble on occasions as they lead 5-8 at the half way stage. The second half saw Wymondham turn the screw as they won seven of the remaining nine ends but the two dropped ends saw them drop a three and a brace which had given Hingham a 10-13 lead with three ends remaining. The last two ends however saw Wymondham's persistence pay off as two three's over the last two ends gave them victory which on the balance of play was deserved by Brian, Jack and Jack who fought till the end. On mat 2 Pat Saunders, Mark Linsdell and Debbie Sparham eased to a 22-7 win over J. Capell, J. Chapman and J. Hunter. After seven ends Pat, Mark and Deb raced into a 14-1 lead and increased that to 22-3 with three ends remaining for a dominant performance.
