Club record five straight Breckland double

The club met Carleton Rode for the second straight season in the five pairs final and this season was held at Connaught. First up Pat Saunders and Debbie Sparham made a great start against Angela Bond and Neil Davidson to lead 5-1 after three ends but series of dropped two's saw the pair trail 6-9 but recovered with two singles on the last two ends to lose by just one at 8-9. Brian Saunders and Jack Pye were in great form to sweep aside Morris and Trish Taylor as they recorded a damaging 18-4 win on the Carleton Rode pair which included a four and three three's. This result would of been a big blow to Carleton Rode so early on but Terry and Karl Newby were up next against Steve Easter and Jon Sparham and won six of the first seven ends but could only manage singles. Steve and Jon had contemplated swapping positions but in the end stayed as they were and managed to turn the match around in the last three ends with a 3,1,2 to win 8-6. Melvyn Barker and Mark Linsdell faced Keith Buck and Graham Mobbs with Mark picking up where he left off from Tuesday night and put in another good performance with Mel supporting well they eased their way to a 12-5 win which effectively put the tie beyond Rode. Laura Hawskworth and Chris Mann were the last pairing on and raced into a 6-0 lead after just two ends against Ann Biddulph and David Blundell. The Rode pair played well but were edged out over the course of the match as the Wymondham pair won 11-6.
