Club continue great start to season with win at Connaught

One of the biggest tests of the Breckland league season was successfully navigated with a hard fought 8-2 win. The best start was made with two wins in the first session Hayley Osborne, Andrew Jackson and Chris Mann beat Di Quadling, O. Secker and M. Minshull 16-10. After leading 8-1 after just four ends the triple did enough to keep the Connaught triple at arms length after that and saw out the win with some good play by Hayley at lead throughout. Laura Hawksworth, Jack Marshall and Debbie Sparham found the going tougher early on but managed to come through in the later exchanges of the match winning five of the last six ends. Having led 11-6 Connaught replied to trail 11-9 but from there it was mostly one way traffic as they won 18-10 to take a 4-0 win at half time with fourteen shots in hand.

Billie Barker, John Jeffery and Jon Sparham started well in their match with five shots scored on end two and from there controlled most of the match only letting Connaught score on five ends. D. Liles, R. Taylor and S. Bragg did rallly late on scoring a 1,4,1 to trail by just 13-10 but this was not enough to overturn the big deficit early on as the Wymondham triple won 17-10. Steve Easter, Owen Cranston and Melvyn Barker were arguably up against Connaught's strongest triple of the night as they faced Mike Parsons, Richard Harrison and Simon Willies. The lead did change several times throughout the match, as both triples showed their qualities, but a dropped five on end nine did not help matters for the Wymondham block even though they managed to win the next three ends to lead again at 13-12. With both triples tied at 15-15 Connaught took their only win of the night with a brace to 15-17.

Without Lee Fallows, who does not look to be playing for Connaught A this season, he will be greatly missed in their team and with Bob Oatway also not playing that evening Connaught were not at full strength. Even without these players you still have to play well and the team did that and deserved the great away win.
