Campaign starts with frustrating draw

The clubs start to the defence of the summer league title already has taken a knock as Kirby Bedon frustrated the visiting team. The first session on mat 1 started superbly as Mark Linsdell, Debbie Sparham and Jack Pye completely dominated their match against Carol Aggas, John Aggas and Phil Watson as the scoreline saw them 18-0 up after ten ends. Two three's picked up on the first two ends set the tone as all three players were in supreme form to win 20-4 in the end. On mat 2 Roger Steele, Chris Mann and Jon Sparham started slowly to trail 2-6 after six ends against Jimmy Dye, Tony Orgus and Gerald Chilvers but recovered with a 3,1,3,2 to lead 11-6 with Jon playing well at skip to keep the triple in it. Another poor spell though saw their lead reduced to 12-11 with an end remaining and although the club held three shots, Kirby's Gerald Chilvers somehow produced two shots to see them clinch a 12-13 win. Second session on mat 1 saw a much tighter match as all four triples remained unchanged as Kirby's Joe and Shirley Brown had failed to turn up for the match. The lead changed frequently in the match as going into the last end saw the score tied at 10-10. Deb had again played well in the match and gave Jack an oppourtunity on the last end pushing the jack out wide when they were two down. Jack's last bowl of the game produced shot and was another good performance against a battling Kirby side as Gerald could not produce his heroics like he did in his previous match. On mat 2 another close match developed but again Roger and Chris were giving Jon too much to do at times but held on to trail by only one shot going into the last end at 11-12. Chris had drawn shot but both Jon's woods were slighlty on the wrong line and inadvertently tipped Phil's bowl in from Kirby which then held shot meaning an 11-13 defeat and again another match that looked like they were taking points from and came away with nothing. This is not the result Mark would of been looking for in his first match in charge but at least it was not an away defeat.
